I thought for sure the snook was going to wear through the ten pound braid or the thirty pound floro leader.  In the mangrove roots and out, over and over and finally… wait a minute I am ahead of the tale.  It started out early this am I prepped the boat like ten thousand times before taking a scoop of pinfish and razor belly pilchards, caught the day before and loaded the live well with a dozen of them and ten dozen shrimp.  Off we go across the Florida Bay to hit as many spots as it takes to land a few Snook.  First spot a long a mangrove bank in deep water, after a few mangrove snapper viola Line sider on and fifteen seconds later adios, the hook pulled.  I explained to the angler no biggy there will be more shots and that’s stuff happens not long, later tide is ebbing and the bite will be over soon, one more mystery bite and its game over.  So we chase the tide across the bay to catch the end of the tide again.  Bam hooked up again and Bam double header, first fish finds a dead log and second fish gets attacked by a lemon shark that cuts that leader.  A few more casts, a few more baits and slack tide again, and here we go running again twenty five minutes this time to work shore line on the incoming.  First cast we get a crushing bite and the snook propels himself out of the water and does a rolling cart wheel land we get him on three seconds later pull the hook, because, because the hook became twisted back around in the bait.  A few deep breaths and high fives on that insane attack and back we go fifty casts later and three quarter of a mile covered and so tactic change run to close creek and power drift throw combos of bait and artificial whap a snapper, whap sheep head, whap more snapper and more snapper and juvenile redfish but no still no snook so off again, off to another shore line that accessible to me with this tide thirty minutes away, but I know we will find one.  (Well I hope so!)Anyway we work down the next shore line, it does not take long and we come up on a beauty just sitting there waiting for us.  A cast and too far beyond him another bait comes off the hook, another bait hits and sticks in a branch.  Power pole down, he is still there unaffected by our presence grab another rod and leave that one hang, bait on hook and cast, bait lands twelve feet from snook and the anglers starts to wind bait a little closer and the snook explodes out of cover and attacks the semi alive pilchard like he is not going to get another meal, and it is game on this is a good fish and immediately runs right down the shore line with us on the trolling hot on his heels, I talk the angler through a terrific fight, in and out of the mangrove roots, over and over I surely thought he would win and wear through the braid or the floro but, it held the epic battle.  He brings his well earned catch boat side so I can dip him up.  Now what a day for this one magnificent fish.  Spot after spot, rig after rig, baits, artificial and multiple area type tactics.  Now I know one first may seem kind of weak, but he was the quarry and one made a commitment and I admire my anglers tenacity.  It paid off.  The fish was thirty six inches, probably over twelve pounds, and he thrilled my client and me very much and watching that fish swim away was very satisfying.  I want to take a Welcome Captain Carlos Jimenez as our new guide here at World Wide Sportsman.  I have known him a very long time and I am confident he will be a great addition to our already very talented fleet.  Come and see us here at World Wide Sportsman Bayside Marina and Catchemup!
