“Because it’s a public body of water, we do need to get a permit from the state, it’s free, and the fish that are put in have to be certified disease-free,” he said. Money raised by the ice fishing contest has helped buy about 3,600 black crappie, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass and northern pike, he said.
