Johnston prefers hitting the grass edges in deeper water, sight fishing the bass that feed on the shad spawning in the hydrilla. The technique has proven effective in Lake Harris, but as the sun gets higher the shad go away and the bass often slip deeper into the grass and can be trickier to catch.
