Offshore Fishing Report World Wide Sportsman, Islamorada, Florida

Hello everyone, and welcome back to this week’s report!  Who wants to go Dolphin fishing?  Well, if you are interested then get down here because there are Dolphin everywhere!  It is absolutely incredible the amount of fish that are in our area, and did I mention that it is December?  This is crazy, but it is very true and all inside of 200’ of water.  How long it will last who knows, but for now a box full of Dolphin, some Sails, a few monster Blackfin Tunas, and throw in a Wahoo or 2 along with a few nice Kings, and a few nice bottom fish to round out the box….Yep this is happening!  Fishing is pretty good down here right now, and with the way the weather has been all over the place, it is making for some very happy anglers.  Now, I am sure that if you went offshore let’s say 15 miles or so, and you found some weed lines or debris, that it would be holding fish.  I don’t know why you would though, because everything but Swordfish is within 7 miles of the beach.  Absolutely no reason to go any further unless you are hunting Swords.  I have caught Dolphin every month of the year, but have never seen this many fish pouring through in December.  Maybe we can attribute it to good conservation with the commercial closures, as this would make sense.  Or, maybe it is mostly due to the warmer water temps?  I can’t say for sure, but what I can say is that offshore fishing is really good right now, so if you want some meat for the freezer, then you had better book your trip now before it is over!

The wreck fishing this week has remained pretty good.  I have seen a few nice catches of Mutton Snappers, Groupers, and some really nice Kings all through the early part of this week, and these guys are running over into the shallower reefs.  Since this last cool front, it really got things moving in the right direction.  The reef has been loaded up nicely with Yellowtail Snappers and Mangrove Snappers, as well as some really nice Cero Macks and Kings.  Even a few Sails hooked on the Anchor, while fishing for Yellowtails on the reef.  I still think we need one more hard cool front to really kick the Sailfishing into action, but we will take what we can get.

The weather report for the weekend has a lot of wind and rain in it as of now, but with a little luck it will say around 15 knots, and stay northeast.  Either way we will be out there fishing the Islamorada Sailfish Tournament,

Well, that is it for this week! Remember, if you need a charter please feel free to stop by World Wide Sportsman’s Bayside Marina and check us out, as I will be glad to help you out with whatever you need.
