It’s FISHING TIME IN TENNESSEE!!!

www.basspro.com

March is here and the weather is finally starting to warm a little, and the fish are starting to bite on area lakes.  As water temps rise, all of the major fish species in our area are on the move, and anglers need to be ready to take advantage of this magical time of the year.

A checklist can be helpful in making sure all of your equipment is clean and in good working order to help make the most of your early fishing trips.  Here are a few suggestions:

  • Be sure to have fresh line on your reels.
  • Clean and lube reels (Oil for bearings and other moving parts, grease for gears)
  • Check rod guides for cracks or nicks that will damage your line (a cotton swab is great for finding these!)
  • Check hooks on baits in your tackle box.  Replace any hooks or split rings that have rust on them.  Rust will weaken them, and may cause you to lose that big fish.
  • Now is a good time to sort out baits that you do not use a lot.  When you buy new baits, make room for them in your box by getting rid of the ones you are probably never going to use.  Find a neighborhood kid or a local school with a fishing team to donate these lures to.  You never know when this small act could have an impact on the fishing future of a potential new angler.
  • Boat and trailer maintenance is also important.
  • It is a good idea to replace the water pump impeller in your outboard every year.
  • Check the wheel bearings in your trailer, and re-pack or service at least once a year.
  • Make sure all pumps are working
  • Test batteries!  (A dead battery is NO fun on any fishing trip)
  • Check on PFD’s (life jackets) that have been stored all winter to make sure they are in good shape

Bass Pro Shops has everything you need, and more, to check off all of the items on this list.

The fishing department has knowledgeable and experienced staff to help you select  all of the things you need to be successful on the water.

The Power Pros service center of Tracker Marine is open 6 days a week to make sure your boat is ready to run for the season.

The marine department has a large inventory of replacement pumps, switches, hoses, and electrical items for any last minute repairs that may need to be made, and the staff are experts is you are looking to upgrade your fishfinders or GPS systems.

Take some time to prepare your equipment before hitting the water.  A little time now can save a lot of frustration and wasted time on the water from a piece of equipment not working properly.

Spring time is fishing time.  Stop by Bass Pro Shops at exit 407 in Kodak, TN to find everything you need to take advantage of some great fishing!
