Offshore Fishing Report World Wide Sportsman, Islamorda Florida

Hello everyone, and welcome back to this week’s report!  I am sure you are all aware that there is the possibility of Tropical Storm Erika turning into a Hurricane and disrupting our little piece of paradise this weekend, but I wouldn’t hold your breath for this just yet.  We always seem to get the “worst” of the media since we are so close to Miami, and it always seems as if there is a chance for a storm to even look like it could come this way it is just about always going to when they are far away.  Having said that….each day they seem to move it more toward the North, so we will just have to wait and see I suppose.  On a better note, the fishing offshore this week remains incredible.  The sheer numbers of Mahi that are here is nothing short of incredible.  It is pretty much all you want from 16 to 18 miles offshore, and there is as much Sargasm weed as I have ever seen.  In all honesty, fishing is almost too easy…just the way we like it.  So, if Mahi are what you are after this weekend, I would feel pretty good saying that you can’t miss.  We do have a moon coming up, and there is a lot of bait in the week so live bait preparation in advance would be a good idea, but with the numbers of fish around I am sure they will eat the chunks just fine.  The Swordfish ledge this week has been quiet thus far, but as the season is slowing down there aren’t as many boats going each day so my “intel” was a little short on this front.  We are going to go Friday and Sunday, so I will report next week on how well this moon was to us.

The reef and wrecks this week were fairly consistent with past weeks.  Plenty of fish in both areas, but the sharks are making things incredibly difficult.  The current has been good enough, and the water has had just enough color in it to make for a decent condition, but the sharks are aggressive to say the least.  The deeper patches would be my recommendation for the weekend, as there are some really nice Mangrove Snappers, some decent Muttons, and a few Groupers.  The sharks have been much less aggressive in these areas, and will make the yield that much better!

Well, that is it for this week! Remember, if you need a charter please feel free to stop by World Wide Sportsman’s Bayside Marina and check us out, as I will be glad to help you out with whatever you need. I hope everyone has a great weekend, and remember to boat responsibly!
