With football season in full swing, it’s time to take another look at tailgating. The essentials, like food and beverage of choice, remain the same, however, let’s take a look at some ideas that have come about since our first blog in 2012.
Food
Tailgating food can go from basic to extreme. Here are a couple of unique ideas to try:
Himalayan Salt Plate - I’m not going to get into whether Pink Himalayan Salt is better for you. That’s a debate for other forums. However, this salt plate will add a subtle flavor to your foods and, what’ really cool about it, is that you can grill on it OR stick it in the freezer and then serve cold items on it. If anything, it is a perfect way to impress your friends with your trendy cooking and, when properly maintained, it can last a long time.
Dutch Oven
Instead of the grill, pick up a Lodge Camp Dutch Oven Cooking Table and do some Dutch Oven cooking. Remember, anything you cook in an oven, you can cook in a Dutch Oven. Really impress your friends by stacking the ovens and cooking several items at once. There are LOADS of easy recipes - Dutch Oven Pizza? Yum! Check out the link to our old blog for some beginner recipes. Don’t forget the charcoal chimney to start your coals and remember to take your cooled coals with you in a proper container when you leave.
Gear
Cool seating - Looking for a new cooler, comparable to the higher-priced coolers, but easier on your pocketbook? Check out the RedHead Premium Cooler with Seat. You can have your cooler and a comfy padded seat, too! One less chair to drag along. Speaking of chairs…
Our folding director’s chair with a side table gives you a seat AND one more place to set food and drinks. It’s one of our best sellers.
Provide a comfy seat for two fans to mix and mingle with our low-profile loveseat camp chair, too.
Environment
Items you can and CAN’T control in the environment:
Weather - The Sport-Brella Portable Sun Shelter provides protection from game day rays and raindrops. It is water repellent and provides protection from 99.5% UVA and UVB rays and has a UPF of 50+.
When it’s super hot, take along some Frogg Togg Chilly Pad Cooling Towel to put around your neck.
Last, but not least, take care of the environment with pop-up recycling cans from Coghlan’s. You’ll always have them there to collect the cans for recycling and help with leaving “no trace.” When tailgating time is over, use it for seasonal storage or tuck it away for next season!
Tailgate Responsibly!
